Laser melting is an additive manufacturing technology that uses a high powered laser to fuse fine metallic powders together to form functional 3-dimensional parts. An even layer of metallic powder is distributed using a recoater, then each layer is fused in turn under a tightly controlled inert atmosphere. Once complete, the part is removed from the powder bed. Depending on the used material the maximum part building area is 500*280*325mm. Metals to be used in laser melting are aluminum, maraging steel, and stainless steel.
