Injection moulding is a manufacturing process for small scale series production and rapid prototyping. The parts are made from the original material of the final product. Possible materials are POM (polyformaldehyde), PE (Polyethylene), PA (Polyamide), ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), PC (Polycarbonate), PVC (Polyvinyl chloride), PPS (Polyphenylene sulfide), TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane), or TPE (Thermoplastic elastomers). The raw material for the process is granular plastic. The granules are fed to the machine and melted. The molten plastic is then injected into the hollow cavity of the tool under high pressure. After the material has cooled off, the tool opens up, and the finished part can be taken out. LM prototype tools are used to produce the injection moulded parts. They are also designed and manufactured by FIT Prototyping.
